Always a room for you
  • Always a room for you

    Artwork by Edwina Kung

How would you describe the feeling of missing someone who is no longer around? You hate that there’s nothing you can do to help but to watch her leave. You saved a room with the best views for her, where sunlight shines right through the windows. You prepared a comfortable bed with a duvet that she is familiar with. You wiped down the dust off the table and got a new plant to freshen up the room. The door from the balcony leads to an endless backyard. Where she can spend an afternoon exploring the woods. Before you leave the room, you realized you forgot something important. You hold up a nail and hammer it right at the centre of the wall, and hung up a photo frame. It is a photo of you. Just before you turn your back and walk away, you stare at the door. You try so hard to remember colours of the door handle and where the scratches are. You know even when you have left the best room for her, it wouldn’t keep her. You had a last look at the door before you walked away, and hope that when you find the door to this room again, she might just return for a rest from her adventures.
