Stay safe and healthy

Artwork by Edwina Kung

The “平安” in the drawing translates to staying safe and healthy in English. It is a phrase commonly used during the lunar new year, as a blessing to others. While living in the UK, I ate a lot of tangerines. They are affordable, easy to ear, and available most times of the year. Then I discovered this little fruit, is my portable sense of place. Tangerine trees are an important symbol of the Lunar new year in my home city, as they represent “luck”, and households will place tangerine trees or a basket of tangerines at home for good luck and blessing. Many of my works are about the sense of place, a portable sense of place. "Sense of place is a particular experience of a person in a particular setting" - Fritz Steele "Sence of place is the lens through which people experience and make meaning of their experiences in and with the place." - Jennifer D. Adams Through reading about "The sense of place", the idea of a portable sense of place unfolds. This isn't a new idea, but perhaps something that one experience without noticing. What is your portable sense of place?
